
SurferEQ tracks the pitch of the instrument or a vocal track and can change the EQ frequency accordingly in real-time, making it possible for the first time to naturally control the fundamental frequencies or harmonics of a track. This characteristic makes the standard, fixed-frequency EQ less effective when it is used to manipulate the instruments/vocals harmonics. On a positive note, the spectrum display at the top of the interface is useful and well-implemented. The interface isn’t unusable, but it could do with some design improvements. The control layout is fine, but the font size is a bit too small and the color contrast is too low. Unfortunately, the interface design isn’t the best. For example, you could adjust the Threshold value on all active bands by moving a single control knob. Another workflow enhancement is the Global control panel which enables the user to quickly adjust a single parameter for all bands.


This method of range adjustment is quick and intuitive.

The band range is adjusted by moving a horizontal slider placed on top of a real-time spectrum display. Each frequency band comes with the Attack, Release, Threshold, Ratio, and Gain adjustments.
